The great pole swap: I can haz skinny pole!!

Chilling out at the temporary pole studio which is my living room.

My living room totally looked like a real studio when both poles were up!

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my 45mm X-pole at home. On one hand, its great for training strength when I’m practicing tricks. But on the other hand, it makes spontaneous free style much harder.

Since I’m just really lazyย more of a dancer than a trickster, most of the time I use my pole to mark through dance routines while doing minimal tricks. Usually, I’ll just do a spin or two and avoid going upside down completely.

And I’ve had pole envy ever since X-pole started making 40mm brass poles.

Last weekend, I asked my pole buddy Miss Folly (who owns a 40mm brass pole) if she’d like to swap poles with me for a while, and she agreed!

So now I finally have a nice slim 40mm pole at home which is fabulous for dancing on! And she gets my nice sturdy 45mm pole to train her crazy competition-level tricks on. Win-win!

And last night I did a very brief session of free styling at home on the 40mm and omg, it makes a world of difference! I didn’t even do that many spins on it but everything just felt so much easier and now I’m totally motivated to get my home practice on again.

I also know that if and when she wants her 40mm pole back, I’m definitely chucking out my 45mm and getting a 40mm pole of my own!!! Cos all I really wanna do is dance with ease.

I’m even seriously thinking of installing some floor-to-ceiling mirrors now! The husband likes the idea too since it’ll make the house look more spacious. Maybe it’s time to replace the false wall after all…

Haha I love this post!!!! I am the total opposite–I LOOOOVE perfecting the tricks & trick combos….and I have to make myself work on dancing & transitions. I prefer training on a 50mm chrome, and I have small hands! The upside? I feel like a total beast on anything smaller! ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome! I want to find a swap buddy now! I have a 50 and want a 45! Brilliant idea.

Heheh, yea I’m well pleased with the arrangement right now! Look for someone who wants to train their strength and tricks and maybe you can swap too

  4. I have a 50mm at home and I actively avoid the 45 in the studio because it makes me HATE my pole. I have a feeling that 40 would be like crack… best not to know how awesome it is ๐Ÿ˜

  5. I use a 50mm in classes (which we were always told was ‘industry standard’ – whatever that means these days) and have a 45mm at home… I find a 50 easier for leg work moves and my 45 easier for hand grip moves. Haven’t heard of a 40 before but now curious!

After this course of hoop classes (no idea how tiny the hoop diameter is lol) I have no clue what I’d prefer – but I know hanging upside down from the skinny hoop has left me with hellish bruises ๐Ÿ˜€

Hey babe where do you buy the xpole? Specifically the 40mm ones? I would have thought x pole Australia don’t ship it here …
